ACTUAL MATTRESS NOT AS SHOWN IN PHOTO, June 5, 2010

For one, the mattress picture is not accurate. It is misleading. If the actual mattress looked like that as in this photo, it would be thin and the springs would eventually come through easily. It’s a poor photo – it don’t really exist. You simply have a cotton-poly top which is 70% cotton and 30% polyester (which is thicker than what you see in this photo) and some kind of spring board protector on top and bottom of mattress. It says so right on the mattress tag when you receive it. And looking inside the mattress, there’s no sold layers like shown in this photo. There are small bits of cotton balls stuffed into this mattress. Which shows it is not compressed properly. A good mattress inside is matted together. This is poor construction and I doubt it will last.

The mattress is medium firm, but sags a bit in the middle when sleeping on it – which is your back. It is not that comfortable for sleeping night after night. But it does fold easily into a coach and is fairly comfortable with that use only. And if you just want to use it as a coach or sometimes a guest bed, then it will suffice. It is also supposed to be 8 inches. But when you measure it, it measures only 6 inches – which is a trick that the manufactures use by giving you the pre compressed numbers before they actually compress it and you get it at the final numbers – the real numbers. And when you are sleeping on a 6 inch mattress or an 8 inch one makes a big difference in the comfort level. With a six inch, you can easily feel the futon mattress frame, especially if a heavier person sits/lays on it. This is a 6 inch mattress – measure it yourself with a tape when you get it or in the showroom and you will see I am right.

My advice for sleeping is: buy a major brand instead of this brand at least 8 inches thick delivered and measurable when you getBy the way, I have been unable to attach the real/actual photo of this mattress. But you can confirm the correct picture if you like by calling the actual manufacturer of Elite Mattresses in California, which is also American Furniture Alliance and they will download a real photo for you. It was a thick mattress but still has the feel of a futon mattress. Not sure I would spend the money again.

It’s a sufficient mattress, fulfilling its duty on an office/guest room futon absolutely unremarkably: not uncomfortable, not ugly, not poorly constructed. It has a tendency to pucker and bulge on the fold, making it look frumpy and uncomfortable, but that’s the biggest con. It’s perfectly competent as a guest bed, but I’m not sure how it would hold up to constant use.
